Summer wardrobe inspo: sandals

I think beautiful, ethically made sandals are one of the hardest things to find. There are plenty of options out there, but finding ones that also fit my aesthetics is difficult. I haven’t bought a new pair of sandals for four years. The last pair I got were my Birkenstock and they are still great! However, not particularly suited for work or more dressed up occasions. So I’m hoping this year, will be the year I get to update my sandal game. I have searched around the worldwide web to find some that fits both my aesthetics and my ethics. I can’t decide whether vegan faux leather or responsibly made genuine leather shoes is the best way to go. I’m hoping I’ll get to try some of the above in the coming weeks.

Bourgeois Boheme

Bourgeois Boheme is a London based, vegan shoe brand. All shoes are artisan-made under ethical conditions in Portugal. This sandal is made from Pinatex™, a leather like material made from pineapple leaves fibres. These fibres are the by-product of the pineapple harvest and therefore require no extra land, water, fertilizers or pesticides at production stage. Piñatex™ is suppose to resemble luxurious textured leather and is soft but strong, light, breathable and comfortable.

Nisolo

All Nisolo producers receive, at a minimum, beyond fair trade wages, healthcare, and a healthy working environment. This sandal is made from genuine leather and handmade in an ethical factory in León, Mexico

Everlane

Everlane focuses on transparent pricing by knowing their factories. This sandal are made from 100% Italian vegetable tanned leather, which is a natural dying process, so the color will darken with wear and sun exposure. They are made in Florence, Italy

Will’s Vegan Shoes

Another London based brand, the name probably give it away; Will’s are all about making vegan shoes. They are all ethically made in Portugal and are PETA approved vegan.

Beyond Skin

Another vegan shoes brand, Beyond Skin is based in Brighton and have their shoes handmade in Spain. This sandal is made from faux patent leather upper, and a breathable 100% recycled lining.
