My skincare routine

My skincare routine

{ My skincare products from Amazing Space and BIOEFFECT }

I’m definitely not an expert on skincare. But I’ve finally found something that seems to work well for my skin and it is natural and organic and sustainable, so I thought I’d share it with you.

The products

Morning and evening I use a cleanser and a tonic from Amazing Space. In the morning I’ll  also use a day cream and once a week a face mask from Amazing Space. And in the evening I ‘scrub’ by face with a Konjac sponge and switch the cream for a serum from BIOEFFECT. I also use an anti-septic thing – if I have many pimples I mix it with my face cream or serum and put it all over my face, but lately that hasn’t been necessary and I’ve only had to put it on a few spots – and it works surprisingly well. Once a week I use the Magic Mask and give myself a little time out with a mini-spa. I’ll wash my make-up brushes and do my nails, while drinking a cup of herbal tea, and read a book, a magazine or watch an episode of my favourite show on Netflix.

Amazing Space is a natural and organic skincare and spa brand from Denmark and their products are especially suitable for men and women who live in the northern hemisphere. All products are free from parabens, synthetic colours, synthetic fragrances and petrolatum. They use natural, biological, plant-based ingredients and the products are not tested on animals. The scents used are natural essential oils and the main ingredient is Inca Inchi oil. The Inca Inchi oil is extracted from the plant Plukenetia Volubilis, which grows wild in the Amazon rain forest in Peru. Amazing Space gets theirs from a Fair-Trade project called OMEGA.

The Night serum is from Icelandic BIOEFFECT and it has worked wonders for my skin. Apparently, it is produced using a ground-breaking, scientific approach to skincare and what plants can do for us. It is amazing, and while it is expensive I cannot recommend it enough.

The attitude

I think it’s so true that beauty comes from within. The past few years have been quite stressful, trying to find my place in the world and it has taken a toll on me both mentally and physically – especially on my skin. But lately, I’ve felt like it’s turning and I’m getting more comfortable in my own skin, finding my way. It’s definitely a learning curve, but so far, so good – here’s some of the things that’s helped me.

I’ve stopped wearing make-up every day. I will still wear make-up if I’m going to an event or meeting with a new business opportunity. But I wear much less and I never wear it if I’m just hanging around the house or going out for coffee. When I do wear make-up, I take it off as soon as I walk through the door to let it breathe. This is so liberating.

I’ve cut way back on dairy products. I’ve heard so many times that dairy is bad for your skin, but never really taken it to heart. Lately, I’ve become more and more aware of the ethical concerns involved in producing dairy products and have automatically cut back on it, and it has actually improved my skin significantly.

I drink a green smoothie every morning and plenty of water throughout the day. I’ve always eaten quite healthily, but making sure I get my greens already in the morning is a nice way to jumpstart my day.

I stop my inner mean-girl. For years, I’ve put myself down when things didn’t go my way or made excuses when they did. My skin problems being just one very visible thing that “was wrong with me”. I never really allowed myself to take credit for the good things or believing that I was actually capable of achieving anything worthwhile. And I’m just so over it. Now, whenever my inner mean-girl gets started, instead of letting her go on and on, I make an effort to stop her, and tell myself good things instead. And I laugh more. Things doesn’t have to be perfect to be good. Or to be great actually. Perfect is boring and instead of stressing over the little things, I try to focus on the bigger picture.

I sleep. I’ve always loved sleep and it’s so important for my mental health that I get enough sleep. Setting up a proper routine to go to bed and get up at the same time every day is the best.

I’m not sure if my skin is getting better because of the products I use or because of the change in my attitude, but both my skin and myself are definitely in a good place at the moment. What are your favourite skincare products and tips?
