One Asthanga Yoga Teacher and Five eco-friendly yoga wear brands

One Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Five eco-friendly yoga wear brands

{ One very happy camper }

Yesterday I officially became a certified Ashtanga Yoga Teacher. It’s been a weekend full of emotions – the good kind of emotions. I can’t remember the last time I’ve laughed so much and I feel so grateful, proud and relieved somehow, that I actually managed to finish the training. It’s been ten months since I started, we moved to London in the middle of it and travelling back and forth was tougher than I imagined it would be. But somehow, yesterday it was all worth it. I was so excited and so proud to get my certificate and I can’t wait to see what and where this yoga journey of mine will bring me in the future. In the meantime, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share some of the eco-friendly yoga wear brands I turn to when I need something new.

PrAna

PrAna started in California in 1992 with the desire to create stylish and sustainably made yoga and climbing wear. They use materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, hemp and recycled wool. Among other things, they work with fair trade and bluesign® to ensure fair working conditions for the people involved in production and that the dyes they use are environmentally and humanly safe. And they work towards knowing every step in their supply chain to ensure they actually practice what they preach.

It’s one of the first yoga wear brands I came across when I first started practising yoga 8 years ago. I love this top and these pants.

Satva

Another American brand is Satva. Organic cotton from India is at the core of the brand. They are focused on making a positive impact on the community in which their products are made, both socially and environmentally. I first came across Satva last year in L.A. when I found a perfect organic cotton yoga top in Whole Foods from them. It’s one of my favourite yoga tops, so I’d definitely consider buying from them again. Perhaps these pants made from GOTS certified cotton.

Yoiqi

This German brand have their production in Egypt and also work with organic cotton. Their whole production takes place under one roof, which makes it so much more transparent. It is a new to me brand that I came across when Mia from Heylilahey linked to them on Instagram. I love that they use other materials than polyester and would love this jumpsuit  made from organic cotton.

Vyayama

Vyayama is an old Sanskrit word that means ‘to move’ or ‘to tame the inner breath’. It intends to provide a natural alternative to the synthetic yoga wear and they do so by using my favourite material Tencel®. The pants from their beautiful print collection has sold out, but I also love the simplicity of their black options, which would also fit so well with this printed top. The Tencel® is produced in Europe and the clothes are manufactured in Portugal.

Moonchild Yoga Wear

Moonchild Yoga Wear is a Danish brand, their clothes are designed in Denmark and made in the EU with OEKO-TEX® certified Italian fabric. Their beautiful prints are all done in Denmark by using only water based dyes without the use of solvent. Their method greatly reduces the amount of dye needed.  Their collections are inspired by the colours and light of the Scandinavian nature and feminine minimalism. The brand has also teamed up with Action Child Aid and donates part of their profit to help Action Child Aid create education for poor children in India. I already have these pants with the matching bra and these too and I cannot recommend them enough.
